The Golden Pheasant Football Club was formed when a group of lads who played down the field got a little bored of playing against each other. A massive discussion took place in the local pub ‘The Golden Pheasant’ between Rob Calvey, Paul Davies, Stuart Jackson, Mark Brady etc. The problem the lads encountered was persuading somebody to run the team and become their manager, but after several weeks of pleading Jon Cripps finally caved in and offered to take on the job. The Golden Pheasant was now formed……….. In 1999 the Golden Pheasant entered the Derby Taverners League in Intermediate Division 3, the bottom division. The team finished 4th in their debut season earning promotion at the first attempt. With this success the team parted company with thier first manager, who had to resign due to work commitments, allowing Geordie Steve to take the reigns …….. unfortunately due to other commitments Steve could not continue, paving way for Ammo Jandu. The club entered arguably some of its most successful times under the guidance of Ammo, winning the League and Cup double and therefore gaining promotion to Division 1. The Golden Pheasant again won the League and Cup double which came on the back of reaching the semi-final of the anniversary cup the season after. Quite an amazing 2 years in the clubs short but eventful history.........after the continued success and development of the club it came as a shock when Ammo felt he could no longer continue the management of the team. Daz Wheatly and Paul Davies took the reigns in the 2004/05 season and guided the Pheasant to a top 3 finish, which earned the club another promotion, this time to the dizzy heights of the Premier Division, quite an achievement for the Daz and Paul as the were still playing. In the next season it was decided by the committee that Paul Davies should step down from the management team and concentrate on his playing responsibilities, which saw the return of John Cripps as Daz’s assistant. The team did well and held their own in the top division and at the minute are still playing top-flight football. The club has achieved a great deal in the first 8 years, but this could not be done with the appreciated support of our sponsors over the years. The Golden Pheasant has provided a base for the club and the food and liquid refreshments have greatly appreciated over the years. The club committee is totally focused to the smooth and successful running of the club and also to the players them-selves. Unfortunately 2007 did see the retirement of the Pheasant’s ever committed secretary Dave Davies, his constant drive and belief in the Golden Pheasant has contributed hugely to its success over the years and although Dave has stepped down he is still on hand to offer his support. The club has raised over £1000 for the Magic Millions appeal, and also contributed hugely to the success of the ‘Shelton Charity Challenge Shield’ in December 2006, helping to raise £2000 for The Derby Telegraph's Magic Laser appeal. The Golden Pheasant Football Club is now entering a new era which hopefully see continued success and provide a club to which its members feel proud to be a part of.
